Wherever you go or what you do may depend on the type of holiday you choose. Once you have chosen your base, there is a huge choice of things to do and places to visit in and around Modbury.
Beaches: You are spoilt for choice in the South Hams, which is famous for its beautiful, diverse, award-winning beaches that stretch from the River Dart to Wembury (near Plymouth). All of the 12 beaches in the South Hams, South Devon area, were entered for a beach award last year (2004) and passed tough tests to prove that they are also some of the safest and cleanest in the UK. Bigbury-on-Sea and Blackpool Sands received a 'Blue Flag' Award, Challaborough received a Resort Beach Award and Bantham, Beesands, Hope Cove, North Sands Salcombe, South Sands Salcombe, Thurlestone, Slapton and Strete Gate all received a Rural Beach Award. Life's a beach!
Attractions: There are many attractions within an easy drive of Modbury to keep everyone entertained. These include the internationally renowned Paignton Zoo Environmental Park (30 miles), award-winning Woodlands Leisure Park (15 miles), Sorley Tunnel (8 miles), National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth (17 miles), Pennywell Farm, Buckfastleigh (15 miles) and Dartmoor National Park.
Coastal Path: The magnificent South West Path runs for almost 60 miles through the South Hams. Many delightful inns are situated adjacent to the path, making it easy to rest and eat on route. Dartmoor National Park offers a great choice for the energetic walker and is only a 30-minute drive away.

Dartmoor National Park
Dartmoor is best known for its hardy breed of native, free-roaming ponies. Dartmoor, is one of the UK's finest National Parks and southern England's last great wilderness.
A lot of the landscape can be seen by car but the essence of Dartmoor is best experienced on foot or on horseback.
Shopping
Modbury has a wonderful array of specialist shops, old inns and great restaurants. These can be found in the Directory under Gift and Antique Shops, Delicatessens, etc. Take the 'Made in Modbury' trail and you will see local artists and craftspeople at work.
